Remember, November
Mile High Hippie
One of my best friends, Thom Merril recently stayed with Kim and I in Denver for two weeks. Thom and I have known each other for almost a decade. We spent the majority of our friendship playing music live, drinking, and hanging out. I left Baltimore in August 2016 to move to the mile high city. Thom left Baltimore summer of 2017 to move to Hawaii. We have kept in contact, but have changed significantly since leaving our hometown. Thom has grown into a more hippie approach to his life. It was different than what I recall his lifestyle previously. At times it was challenging hosting him for the two weeks. All together though it was a fun time and an insightful learning experience to understand each other's new ways of life.
During his time here, we went on many adventures throughout Colorado. We hiked Rocky Mountain National Park in 19 degree weather. It was absolutely freezing, but some of the most beautiful sites to see while in the state. We drove around Rocky Mountain Wildlife Arsenal Refugee. While we were riding along the path we saw buffalo, prairie dogs, and unique birds. Thom and I hiked along the trails of the refugee where we walked along a lake. The night before Thom's last night in Denver we drove to Sulfer Hot Springs to relax in melting hot water in freezing cold weather. We spent over two hours dissolving our bodies into the H20. Once we left, we had to drive through Arapahoe National Forest. Unfortunately, a snow storm hit us within the mist of our trek through the mountain. It was a frightening experience and took us a long time to get home. We made it home safe after a few freaky hours of the car sliding on an icy mountain.
My favorite moment while hosting Thom was seeing Neon Indian DJ an event the Museum of Contemporary Art was hosting at Sports Castle. I reached out to the museum a few weeks prior to the event about reviewing the show on my radio show. I received an email the day of the event responding yes for free entry to a night full of fun. Thom and Kim bought tickets online and we were on our way to see Neon Indian.
We checked our coats in and made our way to the open bar for drinks. Inside the castle we saw drunk people in suits, life size hamster balls we rolled around in, photo booths, and an opening DJ to kick off the night. We went to the very top of the castle to see a room full of people sharply dressed biding on expensive artwork. After a few hours and too many beers later Neon Indian came on. I was jumping for joy as Thom, Kim, and I danced to his set for over 2 hours. After the set, we met Neon Indian and I thanked MCA for giving me the incredible opportunity to review the show.
Another great memory from Thom's stay here was performing as The Shaky Experience for our 7 year anniversary. It's crazy to think that a band we started in our hometown such a long time ago somehow manages to perform once a year. We played a Halloween house party at my friend's place. The lineup was Upstanding Citizens, The Shaky Experience, GALLERIES, Hairclub., Vic & The Narwhals. The whole night was such a fun time and our Baltimore friend that recently moved to Denver was there, Kevin Nieman. Kim, Thom, and I all painted our face as the solar system. The night was another mile stone in the history books for us.

TV!
I was recently a guest on Late Night With Matt Struck. This is a local late night television show that airs on Denver's Public Access Television. I met Matt through a mutual friend and had him come on my radio show to talk about his show. He then invited me to come on his late night show to talk about my show, my music, media, and my The Price Is Right win. It was such a blast being on the show! The episode airs next month (December) and was filmed in front of a live studio audience at Denver Open Media. I'll keep this blog updated where and when you can watch it.
MOVIES!
Throughout the past few months I have thrived in auditioning for movies. I had the incredible opportunity to be apart of a few short films. The most recent one being Slices Of Death, which you can watch here. I star in the main role as a college student hanging with friends telling ghost stories and eventually one of the ghosts comes to kill my friends and I. It was an amazing time to be apart of the cast and work with people that have the same aspiration to work in entertainment as I do.
I am also in two other movies that will be premiering at Harkins Northfield Theater, December 7th. This is all part of a student film showcase festival. The movies are called The Perfect Life Of Janie Jones and Halves and Quarters. I will be out of state, but if you're reading this and will be in Colorado. I highly recommend you checking out this event. If not, the movies will be available on streaming websites sometime next year.
MAGAZINE!
I bought Kim and I tickets to go see The Drums and Methyl Ethal at The Bluebird Theater. The concert was absolutely astonishing. I love both bands and have been wanting to see The Drums for many years. Johnny Pierce has some of the best stage movements in the business and knows how to keep the crowd going. We even had the pleasure to meet him after the show. While we were at the show we ran into my photographer, Nikolia Puc'. We've worked together on a couple different occasions as I review shows and he photographs them. He was photographing the show and took a photo of Kim and I. He submitted the photo to The Rooster and the photo he snapped of us was featured as one of the main photos from the evening (see it here). I know it's nothing too spectacular, but I like it because it's Kim and I at a concert we really enjoy (so it's worth mentioning to me).
SHOW!
I recently had the chance to play Seventh Circle Music Collective. The space is a local DIY run show space in Denver. I learned about the venue by interviewing the founder/owner on my radio show a couple of months ago. I've been wanting to play the space since then. They put together a last minute show and needed one more musician to play. I offered to perform as Pelvis Presley and was put on the lineup. I opened for Meeting House and Moth Wings. The show couldn't have gone any better, the crowd was really into my music. It was such a good night and people came up to me after my set telling me I did a great job. It felt good and boosted my confidence to continue working on my new album that it expected to be released next year.
Miscellaneous:
Denver's Mayor Michael Hancock was recently Kim and I's bartender at The Denver Press Club. He was guest bartender as part of a mission to earn tips to donate to a charity of his choice. He was very wonderful to talk with and did a great job at making drinks. This was the second time I met the mayor, the first being this past August. He gave a short speech at Sloan's Lake Art and Music Festival. It's nice developing a relationship with my mayor even if he doesn't remember me.
The Denver Bronco's is owned by Pat Bowen, I recently had the pleasure of meeting his daughter. We talked football with her. She's a sweet girl with an open mind. We talked about her coming on my radio show to talk about what's it like being the daughter of the owner of the Broncos as well as life, fashion, etc. Stay tuned! I'm in the process of getting her on next year.
I made $465 to give my opinion to 4 different companies throughout the month of October. Focus groups is the way I make this happen. They present products that I use or that I'm familiar with and I tell them how I feel about them. Anyone can do it, including you! Look up focus groups now to make extra money in a tough economy.
