Adversity Is An Opportunity
Facing adversity and turning it into opportunity.
I have faced lots of disappointment this month. This comes as a surprise being last month treated me so well... I've had professional job interviews deny me by responding "I was a close runner up". I also have been denied financial aid again. After submitting appeals on why I deserve to have the support I need to finish my degree. I keep getting panic attacks and lots of anxiety followed with it. I can't seem to get ahead so it seems; however I was wrong. This is all opportunity to succeed in something else. I just need to cut ties with things that have been holding me back for too long and finally fully venture out. I believe that even if you don't have something supporting you like a job or school that can be the best because it can lead to other opportunities and that's exactly what I plan to do. There are plenty of other opportunities out there waiting for me. I have high hopes in my future for 2016.
The Charles Villager
I have been eagerly spreading the word about The BNote coming out with a second series this year. I've been contacting media sources throughout the city of Baltimore to put out the good word. I reached out to The Charles Villager about writing an article in their winter edition newspaper. The editors asked me to submit 1000 word essay explaining the currency, history, and future of The BNote. It was a blast writing it and a great experience for me as a writer. The article I wrote is on the front page and it goes into depth about our exciting plans on the new denominations.

Exploring Richmond

My girlfriend and I were trying to devise the perfect Valentine's getaway on a budget some of our initial places were Wisp Ski Resort, Pocono Mountains, and Philadelphia. We settled on Richmond, VA a town neither of us have really explored before. I requested the free stay at HI-Richmond and was immensely approved with a private room. We packed our things and headed out Valentine's Day weekend.
We arrived at the hostel and were greeted by a hipster-ish front desk agent. He booked us in and recommended us a handful of places including Isley Brewery which is where he was headed next to go to his other job. Kim and I went upstairs to check out our room. It was nice and matched up to my expectations of modern industrial look, considering the hostel was formerly an elevator company. Kim than surprised me once we were in our room with my Valentine's Day present. She gave me a Rat peddle. It's something I've been wanting for awhile and goes well with my sound when playing music.
After an exciting exchange we headed out to visit the brewery. We stopped in and the guy who checked us in gave us a round of our choice of beers at the brewery. They were delicious and it was awesome hangout spot. He than recommended us to go see some other places. We took his advice and ventured out to explore Carryout. We stopped in a vintage store I picked up some shades and a new shirt. We stopped by Fan District and got to see some of the monuments. We than visited Triple Crossing Brewery, which neither of us were a big fan of but happened to have 2 beers there each anyway than we walked over to Gwar Bar which is exactly what sounds like it's a Gwar themed bar. It was cool layout and had interesting names for beer. I think I had the Blood Bath...I then decided to surprise Kim by buying her Valentine's Day right in front of her via my IPhone. I bought her a car bed for road trips across country. She was very gracious and fond of her gift.
After finishing up our drinks, we went to The Green Leaf which is a very popular pool hall in Richmond. It was a nice atmosphere and had a lot of great paintings around it. We stuck around for a drink and watched some pool then headed back to the hostel and called it a night. The next morning we got up had breakfast and did some more sightseeing. It was very limited, there wasn't a lot to see so we decided to go back to Carry Town and visit one more recommendation of a Mexican restaurant called Don't Look Book. They were very delicious and highly recommend anyway to visit them. I had a 1 tofu, 1 mushroom, and 1 potato taco all were very delicious. After our brunch we hit the road and headed back to Baltimore. All in all it was a great trip, I would say to really see Richmond you would need 1-2 days. It's a nice places to do a brewery hop.
Side notes for February:
I saw The Phantom Of The Opera at The Hippodrome for the first time of my life. That was truly a treat going with my friend Rob to see such a brilliantly performed play. It was also cool seeing the architecture of the building, I highly recommend visiting.
I went to Harper's Ferry again this year. This time with my cousin and his girlfriend, it was both of their first time. We hiked to the very top and had a beautiful view of the town, river, and historic railroad, After that we stopped by Flying Dog Brewery which is a place I've been dying to visit. We had a couple of drinks there and then went to go see Dead Pool which was fantastic.
Kim and I went to watch the Super Bowl at Peabody Heights. They had a potluck and used a projector screen for everyone to watch the game. It was a ton of fun, the beer is super great. The food was delicious and we played a lot of games while we were there too. Very awesome place to visit!
Future plans:
I'm still planning on going to Mexico this year to be at my friends wedding in late August. I'm just trying to find an inexpensive way to get there. I also am looking at Osheage music festival in Montreal because the line up is so damn good plus I have friends in Burlington to visit. I'm scheduled to run the Baltimore Shamrock 5k which I'm excited for. I also plan to have at least one more hostel show which I am hoping to host in mid March, look out! I have plenty of exciting paths to take this year and will follow whatever seems like the best journey.
